Ranchi : An Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Jharkhand is absconding after a local court attached his property and asked him to surrender in a case of beating of a judge.

The house of A. Natarajan, posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Crime Investigation Department (CID), was attached Monday on the directives of Bhagalpur district court.

The additional director general of police (ADG) of CID submitted a detailed report on the incident to state police chief V.D. Ram Wednesday.

“Natarajan went underground from Monday. He has been absent from duty since the day his house was attached. We have informed the police chief to take suitable action against him,” R.C. Kaithal, ADGP, CID told IANS.

“Natarajan should surrender in the Bhagalpur court. Even in past we had suggested him to surrender in the court,” he said.

According to police sources, the state police chief is seriously contemplating suspending the absconding cop.

The case relates to beating of an Additional District Judge (ADJ) by the policemen in Bhagalpur district in 1997. When the incident took place Natarajan was the police chief of the district. Natarajan is accused of inciting the policemen to beat up the judge.

Bhagalpur court had issued arrest warrant against Natarajan in January 2006. When Natarajan still failed to appear in the court it ordered the attachment of his property last year.
