Ranchi : At least seven workers of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Democratic (JVM-D) were killed in a road accident when they were returning from a rally addressed by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Police said 20 people were also injured late Wednesday when the jeep carrying the JVM-D supporters, led by former chief minister Babulal Marandi, collided with a truck on the Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway near Tamar, some 70 km from here.
The JVM-D supporters were returning to Jamshedpur from Ranchi. Others who addressed the rally included Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Nadu and Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Prakash Chautala.
The injured were taken to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences. Four of them are said to be in critical condition. The jeep was smashed in the accident, in which the truck driver managed to flee.
