WASHINGTON, Feb 8 (APP): The United States on Friday said it views Scotland Yard’s probe into assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto as credible investigation by independent outside experts.
“Certainly, I understand that this is an emotional issue both for members of her family as well as many people in Pakistan who supported Benazir Bhutto. In terms of the investigation itself by Scotland Yard, we view this as a credible investigation by independent outside experts.
“I leave it to them to talk about both the conclusions that they have drawn as well as the limitations on some of the evidence they had on some of the evidence to view. But we don’t have any reason why we would question the validity of their assessment,” the State Department spokesman said.
Spokesman Tom Casey was asked to comment on findings of Scotland Yard’s probe into Benazir Bhutto’s assassination released Friday, concluding that the PPP chairperson;s death occurred due to head injury caused by a bombing on her vehicle on December 27 as she was leaving after a public rally.
In answer to a question, the spokesman said “it is important for people to feel that they have a clear understanding of what happened but said the US is not proposing anything particular in respect of any review.
“We are not proposing anything particular though, I think it would be up to the Pakistanis to decide whether they felt they needed more review or investigation of this beyond what Scotland Yard and Pakistani authorities have already done.”
