Ranchi : Jharkhand has decided to revert to a six-day working week for all government offices due to declining work efficiency among employees, officials said Saturday.
The government had introduced a five-day working week from Jan 1, 2007, to improve the work culture and give ample rest to employees. However, the office hours were increased to compensate for the extra holiday.
But it was soon noticed that punctuality took a back seat. Majority of the employees never came on time.
Chief Minister Madhu Koda in fact made several surprise visits to government offices and suspended more than two dozen employees for reaching late.
“The chief minister has cleared the file to revert to a six-day working week. The proposal will soon be moved in the state cabinet. It will be enforced once it is cleared by the cabinet,” an official told IANS.
“The five-day working week was introduced on the lines of the central government. But it did not make any impact on the performance of the employees,” he added.
