New Delhi : Most of the Delhiites have already taken to light clothing, marking the capital’s short-lived spring between Basant Panchami Feb 11 and Baisakhi April 14.
Basant Panchami, of course, came in the midst of a raging cold wave. But since then mercury has steadily risen and Delhiites have basked in warm weather for the past week. Sunday the maximum temperature reached 29 degrees Celsius, three above the normal level.
The minimum temperature has also risen in the capital, touching 15.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees Celsius above what is normal for this time of the year. However, the weatherman has ruled out a sharp rise in mercury, forecasting a slight fall in the minimum temperatures over the plains of northwest India.
The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was 3.4 degrees Celsius, recorded at Amritsar in Punjab.
The Met Office said isolated to scattered precipitation is likely over northeastern states for the next two-three days. Isolated precipitation is also likely over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during next 24 hour and mainly dry weather thereafter.
The weather office has said thundershowers are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, south Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The following are the maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall in major cities for the 24 hours till Sunday morning, with figures in brackets denoting deviations from the average.
