New Delhi : An Air India flight from London to Mumbai via Delhi could not take off from here Monday due to engine fire. All the 360 passengers on board were safe.
According to authorities at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, Air India-120 flight from London landed in Delhi and was about to take off for Mumbai when authorities detected smoke coming out from one of its engines.
"The Boeing-747 aircraft of the Air India was getting ready to take off from Delhi at around 9.30 a.m. but officials detected smoke and fire in its third engine," an airport official told IANS.
"All the 360 passengers are safe and were later shifted to Centaur hotel," said the official.
On April 21, At least 154 passengers scheduled to leave for Dubai in an Air India (AI) flight were taken to hotels after the Boeing-757 flight developed engine problem. On April 9, two Air India flights made emergency landings in Delhi due to technical snags.
No one was hurt in the earlier three incidents that involved an Airbus A-310 coming from Bangkok and a Boeing-767 from Dubai. They had developed snags in their landing gear and hydraulic system.
