Shimla : The opposition Congress staged a walkout on the opening day of the Himachal Pradesh assembly’s budget session here Tuesday.
Immediately after the question hour, the Congress legislators started raising anti-government slogans when speaker Tulsi Ram did not allow a discussion on the recent decision by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government to hike bus fares in state-run buses by 25 percent.
The speaker ruled that the request for a discussion from the opposition members had reached him late, so it wasn’t possible to hold a discussion immediately. But, he said, he would allow a discussion later.
This sparked angry protests from the opposition benches and Congress lawmakers staged a walkout from the house.
The speaker later adjourned the house for the day.
