Lightning kills six children in Jharkhand

Ranchi : The onset of monsoon in Jharkhand Wednesday was marked by a tragedy as six schoolchildren died and about a dozen were injured when lightning struck a school near Ranchi, police said.

The children were playing in the ground of the Greenfield School in Rampura village of Namkom block, 12 km from here, when the tragedy struck.

The injured children were admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here. The condition of two of them is serious, police said.

Jharkhand Wednesday received a good amount of the rainfall, bringing down temperatures in the state. Capital Ranchi received a rainfall of around 30 mm.

The met office here officially announced the arrival of monsoon in the state.
