Santiago : India ripped the Mexican defence apart to record the tournament’s highest score as they hammered their opponents 18-1 for their third consecutive win in the Olympic qualifying tournament at the Prince of Wales Country Club here Tuesday.
India led 8-0 at half time and the only blemish was the last minute goal they conceded via a penalty stroke.
In the other matches Great Britain also secured their third win beating Chile 4-0, while Austria beat Russia 5-4 in a tight match.
Rajpal Singh (5), V.R. Raghunath (5) and Prabhjot Singh (4) were the main scorers while the other scorers were Shivendra Singh (2), Tushar Khandekar (1) and Sardara Singh (1). Pol Moreno was the lone scorer for Mexico.
In its previous matches India beat Russia 8-0 and Austria 7-3. India now has nine points, the same as Great Britain.
