Cairo : The Arab League Council has strongly condemned the Israeli crimes in Gaza, calling for documenting them as war crimes against humanity.
In a press release issued Wednesday in its extraordinary session on the Israeli assault on Gaza, the council denounced the Israeli crimes and killing and injury of civilian Palestinians and great damage caused to Gaza facilities.
The release recalled that the Israeli leadership threatened a “holocaust” against the Palestinian people.
The council said that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) failed in taking care of its responsibilities despite the continuous Israeli aggression and the suffering of Palestinian people, and called that a “serious precedent”.
It called the UNSC to take action to protect the Palestinians, refusing the proposed changes on the Arab draft resolution on the issue.
The council strongly refused the policy of denying the Palestinian people their basic necessities and recalled a previous resolution that demanded the lifting of the Israeli siege on Gaza.
It stressed that Arab rights will be protected, adding that an assessment of the situation and a revision of the Arab states’ stances on the peace process will be made.
It meanwhile called the Palestinian groups and factions to unite and join in Arab efforts to overcome the challenges facing the Palestinian people.
