Iranian vice president visits Syria to boost bilateral ties

Damascus : Visiting Iranian First Vice President Parviz Davoudi on Wednesday held talks with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Ottri, seeking to boost bilateral ties in the economic and cultural fields, the official SANA news agency reported.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the issues on the agenda of the 10th session of the Syrian-Iranian Higher Committee and the proper mechanism for activating the agreements signed between the two countries, said SANA.

According to the report, Davoudi, who arrived here in the afternoon for a three-day official visit, would also meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his deputy Farouk al-Shara.

Iran`s total investment in Syria has exceeded 1 billion U.S. dollars in 2007.

The bilateral trade exchanges also reached about 200 million dollars in 2007, of which 180 million was Iran`s exports to Syria, according to Iranian diplomatic sources.
