India should use its influence for independence of Palestine: Arab diplomats

New Delhi: Arab diplomats in India on 12th March urged the Indian Government to use its influence for freedom and sovereignty of Palestine.

Addressing a press conference called by the Arab League in New Delhi, Palestinian Ambassador in India Usama Umar and head of Arab League Mission Ahmad Saleem Al-Waheesi said India had always offered every possible help to Palestinians at political, diplomatic and economic level and now Indian should use its influence and clout in global community to free Palestine from the occupation of Israel.

The Arab diplomats said the world community should go the same way for solving Palestinian problem as they did for independence of Bosnia and Kosovo. They sounded pessimistic about the Middle East peace process. They said the way the West Asia peace dialogues were being held, no hope could be pinned on it. Meanwhile, the aggressive attitude of Israel towards Palestine have continuously damaged the peace process.

Expressing his gratitude to the Government of India and Indian people, the Palestinian ambassador said one billion people of this country were behind the Palestinians. He pointed out that economic and military relations between India and Israel have strengthened during last few years but Indian government has extended its full support to Palestinians at all international for a. The government of India has also provided financial and medical assistance to Palestinians in their hour of need. Recently the Indian government has fetched rupees 30 million as economic aid. The Palestinian ambassador also thanked the Indian Government for constructing the Embassy of Palestine in New Delhi at its own cost, which is equivalent to cost of construction of at least ten schools in the country.

The press conference was also attended by the ambassadors of Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE and Algeria.
