Brian Lara to receive Caricom Award

Port-of-Spain : Former West Indies captain Brian Lara will receive the Caribbean Community and Community Market (Caricom) Award at the Inter-Session Meeting of the Heads of Government in Antigua and Barbuda.

Lara is among four noted West Indians to receive the award this year, the others being Rex Nettleford of Jamaica, Nicholas Liverpool of Dominica, and Gordon Lamming of Barbados.

Among the several awards Lara has received is Trinidad and Tobago’s highest national award, the Trinity Cross.

The Trinidadian batsman, who retired from international cricket after the 2007 World Cup, has played in 131 Tests and amassed 11,953 runs at an average of 52.88. He has hit 34 centuries, including the highest Test score of 400 not out. He also holds the world record for the highest first-class score of 501 for English County Warwickshire.
