Lucknow : Lawyers of the local civil courts and the employees of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corp (UPSRTC) came to blows on the streets of Lucknow Tuesday.
The clash left one lawyer and several employees injured. None was, however, stated to be serious.
While the two sides traded charges, eyewitnesses said that the trouble was sparked off because of lawyers’ insolent attitude.
According to the lawyers’ version, a bus coming from the corporation’s workshop in the neighbourhood nearly knocked off a court employee. But instead of being apologetic, the driver hurled filthy abuses at the employee and that angered some lawyers. They pulled down the bus driver and gave him a thrashing.
What followed were pitched battles between the two sides. Stones were hurled from both sides and clearly the UPSRTC employees were at the receiving end until the police arrived and brought the situation under control.
The band of lawyers turned so wild that they even beat up cameramen of the TV channels who were covering the incident.
Senior Superintendent of police Akhil Kumar has ordered suspension of bus operations from the workshop in the court’s vicinity for the next two days “as a precautionary measure”.
He described the situation as “well under control”.
