Patna : Hundreds of Buddhist monks, including Tibetans, and others in Bodh Gaya protested Wednesday against China’s violent suppression of Tibetans in Lhasa.

They staged a protest demonstration in Bodh Gaya, about 110 km from here, where Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment. The angry protestors also condemned the killing of Tibetans by China’s security forces.

The monks in their deep saffron robes held placards and chanted mantra during the demonstration.

“Buddhist monks protested and condemned China’s actions in Tibet,” said Lama Tenzing, chief of the Tibetan monastery at Bodh Gaya.

The protestors expressed solidarity with Tibetans fighting against Chinese oppression of people in Tibet.

Pragyadeep, an Indian Buddhist monk who took part in the peaceful protest, said: “We offered special prayers for the souls of the Tibetan victims.”

They ended their protest march at the Mahabodhi temple. Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has close association with the Tibetan monastery at Bodh Gaya. He stays at the monastery during his visits here.
