New Delhi : The arrival of four domestic flights at the Delhi airport was delayed late Wednesday after strong winds hit the capital, officials said Thursday.
Passengers, on the other hand, complained of delays ranging from two to six hours, while pilots announced that they were circling Delhi but were unable to land due to congestion.
While two flights were diverted to Jaipur, the other two remained in air for 25 minutes before they could land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, the officials said.
The strong winds started at 8.15 p.m. Wednesday and remained active for over 20 minutes.
The two flights diverted to Jaipur could return only after an hour, said an Air Traffic Control (ATC) official.
This also resulted in delay of flights that were to take off during that period.
“The flights were delayed as a precautionary measure,” said an ATC spokesperson.
As a result, there was chaos at the airport. Visitors complained they were not briefed about the whereabouts of the delayed flights.
