Agenda of Arab Summit endorsed

Damascus : Arab permanent representatives to the Arab League and senior officials of the foreign ministries have endorsed the agenda of the 20th Arab summit which will be submitted to the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers in preparation for the Arab Summit scheduled here on March 29-30.

Monday’s session was chaired by Syria’s permanent representative to the Arab League Youssef Ahmad.

The agenda included the latest development in the Palestinian issue, the Arab-Israeli conflict, Arab Peace initiative, occupied Syrian Golan, Arab national security, the situation in Iraq, rejection of the American unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria, supporting peace, development and unity in Sudan, Somalia and Comoros islands and crystallizing a unified Arab stance to make the Middle East a free zone of weapons of mass destruction, in addition to issues of the Arab joint action on the political, economic and social levels.

The agenda also included issues connected with upgrading the Arab language, and issues on the Arab relations with international and regional communities and Arab cooperation with Europe, Africa, China and the two American continents.

“The participants in the meeting had submitted two decisions to the preparatory meeting of the Arab foreign ministers on the Arab internal relations and the situation in Lebanon, on Lebanon’s request, to be discussed in their forthcoming meeting next Thursday”, SANA reporter said.

In a statement, Ahmad described the meeting as “excellent and the discussions in depth and serious”.

On the Palestinian issue, Ahmad said “dialogue regarding the Palestinian cause has been constructive and objective”.

Regarding the Arab peace initiative, Syria’s official pointed out that “new and serious additions were made to the initiative.
