New Delhi : Disappointed with the recommendations of the sixth Pay Commission, senior members of the Central Indian Police Service Association Friday met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Shivraj Patil to express their concern.
“A delegation of the association, comprising of office bearers and senior members, met Sonia Gandhi and submitted a memorandum with respect to the anomalies in the pay scales arising out of the recommendation of the sixth Pay Commission,” the association said in a press statement.
The delegation also made a presentation before the home minister. Patil urged the association to have faith in the government and assured it that the police services would get their due, the statement added.
According to the association, the pay panel recommendations are below its expectations. It described many of the recommendations as “unfair and likely to violate the principles of equity and equitability”.
“The Pay Commission has recommended a pay band of Rs.80,000 (fixed) to the director general (DG) of central police forces only. The responsibilities and problems dealt by the DGs of several states are in no way less than those faced by the central police forces,” said A.P Maheshwari, joint secretary of the IPS association.
“There should not be any difference in the pay at the level of the director generals (DG) of police whether he is in central paramilitary or in a state. In fact they should all be given apex pay scale,” Maheshwari added.
Manjari Jaruhar, secretary of the association, said downgrading of the status of DGP, who is the in charge of internal security, was not rational.
“In overall context the association finds that the recommendations are not very cogent and in fact much below expectation,” she said.
The association said the quota of IPS on central deputation has also been drastically reduced in senior ranks. It said the number of posts should be appropriately restored.
