New Delhi : At least 10 people were wounded in three bomb blasts at election rallies across Nepal Monday, ahead of April 10 polls to the Constituent Assembly. Besides Kathmandu, explosions occurred in Birgunj in southern Nepal, and in Inaruwa town in the Terai region of the Himalayan State, news agency Indo Asian News Service reported.
While no one has claimed responsibility for the blasts in the capital and Birgunj, an armed group comprising former Maoists which is opposed to Thursday’s election said it was behind the Inaruwa explosion, the news agency said, quoting a Nepalese police official.
Massive security arrangements are in place to ensure a violence-free election to the 601-member constituent assembly which will decide the fate of monarchy in Nepal. Polls have already been postponed twice last year. King Gyanendra had seized power in 2005 with the help of Army. But he was forced to make way for a coalition government comprising major political parties.
