This summer, look fresh and feel good in yellow

New Delhi : Be it clothes or accessories, yellow is big this season. Soft shades of the colour will be the perfect way to look and stay cool in the hot Indian summer, say designers.

“Yellow will rule this season,” fashion designer Rina Dhaka told IANS.

Upcoming designer Charu Parashar seconds Dhaka. She said: “Although yellow is big this season, I feel that only muted shades of yellow like lemon and sunflower yellow will look good.

“Anything deep yellow or completely yellow in terms of clothing is not advisable. If hints of yellow are used to create prints on the cloth, it would tone down the look and will give a more summery feel.”

Anand Kabra, a Hyderabad-based designer, feels although whites and ivories are the classic colours for Indian summer, there will be a strong presence of yellow, ranging from pale yellows to ochre this season.

Yellow has not been used in a long time, according to fashion designer Kavita Bhartiya, who is behind Ogaan, a high fashion store here.

“There is a freshness, a feel good factor about yellow that makes it look nice and different and in fact I am using quite a bit of it in my spring-summer collection,” she explained.

Bhartiya added that accents of the colour look best on an outfit or even if it is used in contrast to pastel and citrus colours like pink and peach.

Yellow will dominate not only the apparel market but also the accessories market, said Shalini Gupta, head designer of What’s Pink, an accessories brand.

“Although a lot of bright colours are being used in accessories nowadays, yellow is the hottest among them all for the summer. It is being used big time,” she said.

Gupta said in contrast to clothes, where lighter and paler shades of the colour are being used, the use of darker yellows and ochre is more dominant in accessories.

She explained that the colour is being incorporated to create big-sized day bags in bold shapes and designs besides being extensively used to create a variety of footwear like peep-toes and flat pump shoes with bows.

Alongside yellow, the designers feel soothing colours like aqua, peach and skin and sand tones look best during summer and will definitely be seen around.
