Mumbai : The Indian equity market was trading flat in the positive zone in the afternoon trade. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) oil and gas index outperformed the other sectoral indices while the BSE midcap and small cap indices also witnessed good buying interest.
At 1.00 p.m., the Sensex was up 41.09 points or 0.26 percent at 15,831.60.
The S&P Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was up 13.65 points or 0.46 percent at 4,768.80.
The market breadth was positive. A total of 1,623 shares advanced, 686 shares declined and 764 shares were unchanged.
Except banking and IT, all other BSE sectoral indices were up.
Reliance Energy, Reliance Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Hindalco were among the gainers.
