New Delhi : The Delhi High court Thursday convicted a lawyer for not obeying its order to vacate the house he had rented.
A division bench of Justices B.N. Chaturvedi and G.S. Sistani held advocate P.C. Srivastava guilty of contempt of court. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced April 25.
The case pertains to a flat Lalit Madan had given on rent to Srivastava, which he did not vacate despite the expiry of their rent agreement.
The matter reached the court, which asked Srivastava to vacate the house.
As the lawyer stayed put, Madan filed a contempt petition against him.
Meanwhile, the advocate wrote a letter to the chief justice of India, alleging that Madan was close to many high court judges and lawyers and often threatened him with dire consequences.
After some months, Srivastava wrote a letter to Delhi Police alleging some judges and lawyers had ties with gangsters.
The court held the lawyer guilty him contempt of the court, in view of the contents of the two letters and his conduct.
