Robbers attack mother, daughter in northwest Delhi

New Delhi : Four men allegedly attacked a woman and her teenage daughter with a sharp-edge object for protesting a robbery attempt at her northwest Delhi home Saturday morning, the police said.

According to the police, Dharmender, 22, and his three accomplices, including a rickshaw puller, made entered the Adarsh Nagar home of Monica Sharma, 38.

While her 13-year-old daughter Urvashi was at home, her husband Raj Kumar, who runs a mattress shop nearby, and their teenage son were absent.

The police said the rickshaw puller used to work for Raj Kumar five months ago and stayed with the family.

The men suddenly started ransacking the house, the police said. They allegedly attacked Monica Sharma and her daughter when they resisted and raised an alarm.

The police said some neighbours managed to overpower Dharmender but the other three escaped. A firearm has reportedly been seized from him.

Monica Sharma was admitted to a private-run hospital with injuries on her neck. She was given three stitches and her condition was stated to be stable. Her daughter was discharged after first aid.

“Initial investigations suggest that one rickshaw puller, who was sacked by the family a few days ago, had facilitated the entry of others. We suspect that personal vendetta could be the reason behind the daylight robbery attempt,” said a police official.

“We have arrested Dharmender and separate teams have been formed to arrest the other assailants,” the official said, adding that a case of attempt to robbery and attempt to murder was registered.
