Lucknow : The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is set to rise in the centre stage of Indian politics soon, party supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said after her party’s emphatic win in five by-elections in the state Wednesday.
“It should now be clearly evident to the entire opposition that the BSP is all set to rise at the centre stage of Indian politics in months to come,” an ecstatic Mayawati said while addressing a press conference shortly after the announcement of the poll results.
“We have won despite the underhand deal between all opposition parties against the BSP. The election results should be an eye-opener for the opposition parties,” she said.
Having spearheaded the poll campaign herself, she said, “The outcome is an indicator of not only the success of the BSP’s policies, but also the style of working of the government, its work culture and the quality of governance being provided by us.”
She sought to point out, “It has also shown the people’s acceptance of my fundamental approach towards ensuring the welfare and well being of all castes.”
Mayawati profusely thanked her party men, ministers and other leaders who were engaged in the poll campaign. “I must also praise the officials for carrying out their duty with utmost sincerity and honesty during the entire election process”, she added.
The BSP won in the Lok Sabha seats of Khalilabad and Azamgarh and the assembly seats of Bilgram, Karnailganj and Muradnagar, where elections were held last Saturday.
Both the opposition Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost their deposits on four of the five seats, while the Samajwadi Party lost its deposit on one seat.
