Bhubaneswar : People in an Orissa village have performed special prayers to end years of bad blood that has made life difficult for them.
The "Shiva Mahayajna" was performed to restore unity among the residents of Kalyanpur village in Puri district, some 90 km from here. The village has experienced large-scale violence, including murders and extortion.
"The village was divided into groups. They were constantly fighting among themselves. Exhausted, the villagers resolved to restore peace by performing the yajna," villager Rajendra Kumar Tripathy said.
The three-day yajna concluded Friday.
Hundreds of villagers from nearby areas also attended the ceremony out of curiosity. The police too are happy that the villagers have decided to live in peace.
