New Delhi : The heat wave conditions continued over central parts of India and Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region Thursday, and the northern plains braced themselves for the summer season.
There was no change in the maximum temperature from the day before in Delhi Thursday, as the high remained at 40.2 degrees Celsius. The warm and sunny day, however, had the residents running for cover during the afternoon. The day’s low was recorded at a comfortable 22.0 degrees Celsius.
Most parts of the northern plains had similar weather trends. Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius, nearly six degrees above normal for this time of the year.
Most other cities of the plains also saw temperature soaring above 40-degree mark and the weather man has forecast the trend would continue in the coming days.
While the northern India braced itself for the summers, in central India and Vidarbha region the mercury has already touched the peak point.
Nagpur recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius. The Met Office has said that the maximum temperature recorded in the country was 45.3 degrees Celsius at Akola in eastern Maharashtra.
Most parts of the country remained dry Thursday, but the weather office in its bulletin has said that with a low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal, widespread rainfall is expected in Assam, Meghalaya and some parts of southern peninsula.
