Abbas arrives in Egypt for talks on Palestinian issue

By Xinhua,

Cairo : Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for talks on the latest developments over the Palestine issue, Egypt’s Nile TV reported on Saturday.

Abbas is scheduled to meet his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak on Sunday morning to brief him on the outcome of his talks in Washington with U.S. President George Bush and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, confirmed the Egyptian official MENA news agency.

Abbas and Mubarak will also discuss Egypt’s efforts to reach a reciprocal Palestinian-Israeli truce agreement, Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Nabil Amr was quoted as saying.

Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) launched peace talks at a U.S.-hosted conference in last November, hoping to reach a deal before the end of this year.

Palestinian Hamas movement denounced on Saturday that Abbas ended talks with Bush on Friday without tangible progress in pushing peace talks with Israel, calling on Abbas to announce the failure of the Middle East peace process and to start a national dialogue instead.
