Bangladesh to start power snapping drive in shopping malls

By Xinhua,

Dhaka : In order to tighten its belt on load management program, Bangladesh power ministry is going to start disconnection drive in shopping malls from Monday, leading English newspaper The Independent reported.

“We requested the people, we signed a contract with the shopping mall owners to close shops by 8 p.m., but unfortunately they did not care to do so. From Monday we are going to start disconnection as everybody knows we have no other alternative except load management,” an official was quoted as saying.

Power ministry has observed that some shopping malls did not comply with the agreement they had signed with the government two months back.

Failing to address the gap between generation and demand, the power ministry has started load management program for the last two years to save 300 MW at peak hours.

The power ministry is producing around 3500 MW to 3600 MW for the last two days against the demand of 5200 MW.
