Ranchi : Over two dozen workers of the Forward Bloc were injured in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district Wednesday as police cane-charged them when a protest against rising prices turned violent.
The Forward Bloc launched an agitation against the rising prices of essential commodities. Legislator Aparna Sen Gupta, along with party workers, was demonstrating in front of the Dhanbad district deputy commissioner’s office when she was arrested as a preventive measure.
On learning about her arrest, hundreds of Forward Bloc workers reached Dhanbad Jail believing that their leader was inside and tried to force their way into the prison, a police official said.
Police hit the demonstrators with canes. Over two dozen people were injured.
Sen Gupta, who was detained at a police station, was later released.
