Ramallah : Palestine Presidency Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rdeina denied on Sunday evening news that President Mahmoud Abbas has threaten to resign, affirming that such statements are unfounded.
Abu Rdeina told WAFA that President Abbas would continue exerting efforts to achieve the dream of the Palestinian people in establishing the independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Meanwhile in Egypt’s SHARM EL-SHEIKH, President Mahmoud Abbas called on Sunday on the USA to be unbiased, siding with the international legitimacy and not to negotiate on Palestine behalf.
In a press conference before leaving Sharm El-Sheikh, President Abbas said that Palestine position is clear and based on the international legitimacy and through it they spoke with Americans and Israelis, adding that all Palestine ask from the Americans not to negotiate on their behalf and to commit to neutrality.
‘The speech of President Bush in the Israeli Knesset has evoked us and we have many remarks on. We are talking in absolute transparency and openness and asked that the American position to be parallel,’ President said.
As for the issue of Jerusalem, President said that “the United States or else will not be able to give the green light to abandon it, and we with Israel put all the files and the issue of Jerusalem on the table of negotiations, pointing out that Arab Jerusalem was present in all negotiations with the Israeli side, because we consider and insist that East Jerusalem is the capital of our state and no one can waive to any one on behalf of anyone on this case.”
President said that negotiations are continuing with the Israeli side and “we don’t want illusions that things have been resolved, pointing out that the files are open and we do not want to close them, but dealing with all files”.
On the Gaza Strip, President Abbas stressed the need for Hamas to retreat from what it had done and go back to legitimacy, and then ‘we’re ready for legislative and presidential elections.’
While in SHARM EL-SHEIKH, President Abbas met separately with Jordan King Abdulla II and President Hosni Mubarak on Sunday, discussions focused on the developments of the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and exerted efforts to push it forward.
President Abbas also updated his counterparts on talks held between him and US President George .W Bush.
In related development, President Mubarak said on Sunday, in the presence of President Bush, that it is mistaken who he believes that any one can provide cover for an agreement which does not meet the Palestinian demands, in reference to Arab countries that would not give such a cover.
In his speech before the International Economic Forum on the Middle East, President Mubarak said that the whole world must realize that President Mahmoud Abbas needs an agreement that meets the demands of the Palestinian people and guarantee his rights.
