Dhaka : A Dhaka court has sentenced former post and telecommunications minister Aminul Haque to 10 years in jail for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information in his wealth statement.
As he is absconding, his sentence Tuesday will come into effect from the day of his arrest or surrender, The Daily Star reported Wednesday.
Aminul was sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for accumulating illegal wealth and three years in jail for suppressing information in his wealth statement submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Judge Tanzina Ismail of Special Court-6 also fined him 100,000 taka (about $1,429). He will have to serve three months more in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
The court also ordered the authorities to confiscate his illegal wealth worth over 6.6 million taka (about $94,286).
