Pakistan sends another consignment of relief goods for Chinese quake victims

Islamabad : Pakistan on Wednesday dispatched another consignment of relief goods comprising tents for the earthquake victims of China by special aircraft.

The consignment was sent on the directives of the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani soon after his arrival from Egypt.

The relief goods included water, food items and medicines in two consignments for earthquake-affected people of China have been dispatched.

The relief consignment was sent by Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) Nazar Muhammad Gondal at Chaklala Air Base.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Lt Gen ® Farooq Ahmad and Ambassador of China Luo Zhao Hui was also present on the occasion.

Talking to media persons, the Minster said that on the request of Chinese government, Pakistan is providing over 10,000 tents for the earthquake victims.

He further said that about 6000 tents would also be sent by trucks for Chinese quake victims, besides special flight of relief goods.

Nazar Muhammad said that during October 8, 2005 earthquake in

Pakistan, China had generously provided relief goods besides financial assistance

for the people of the Pakistan adding, it was the time to stand shoulder to shoulder with China in this time of ordeal.

Chairman NDMA Lt General® Farooq said that government was extending relief goods to China and sending a medical team of 20 doctors and paramedics as part of such efforts.

The ambassador of China thanked the Pakistani government and people for their moral and financial support for China in this hour of trial.

He said Pakistan was the first country that had sent relief goods for the people of China.
