Six Jamia Millia students clear Civil Services exam 2007

New Delhi: This year six Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) students have cleared Civil Services Examination held by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Two others have been selected for West Bengal and Jharkhand state services.

Giving details about the successful students a press statement issued by JMI today said Bushra Adil has topped the judicial service of West Bengal and Sunita Xalxo was selected in the Jharkhand Civil Services. The students who got selected for IAS are: Md. Parvez Alam (B.A. Hons. Pol. Sc.), Shilpa Garg (B.Ed.) and Mushtaq Ahmed (M.A. History) besides Hamid Akhtar (History) and Amit Verma (History).

JMI’s Center of Coaching and Career Planning, which has been managed and run by the university since 1984, provides coaching to students appearing for various competitive examinations. The centre is funded by UGC, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. The aim of the center is to prepare students from minority, OBC and SC/ST categories to make themselves competent for the various career options available to them, has been particularly successful this year with many of them have been selected for different services like Judiciary, IPS, IAS and provincial services.

Under the directorship of Prof. M.G. Husain, the centre has launched several new initiatives with great enthusiasm and started coaching programs for candidates appearing for NET/JRF examinations and entrance tests of B.Ed./ETE, Diploma Engineering, B.Tech. programs of Jamia, D.C.E., AMU and AIEEE, said the statement. Experienced and qualified Faculty has been hired for these programs. The center is also planning to prepare candidates for other competitive examinations like Banking Services, PSUs, SSC and State services. For more details one can contact Prof Ghalib at 9810714175.

Meanwhile, JMI has set up a helpline to facilitate students seeking admission. The helpline No. is 26981717 / 26984075 / 26986176; Extension is 1893. The helpline will operate from 9.30 am till 4,00 pm and will be manned by volunteers from the NSS. The helpline volunteers will be able to answer most queries related to how to fill forms, which certificates to attach, last dates of submission, etc.
