Srinagar : Three unemployed doctors demanding work climbed a mobile telephone tower here Monday and threatened to jump if the police intervened.
The doctors, qualified in electropathy, mounted the BSNL tower at Pratap Park area, attracting a big crowd besides security personnel. Police and fire service officials urged them to come down but without success.
Some officials at the scene also spoke to the doctors on mobile phones.
Electropathy is an alternative system of treatment that uses electricity to treat diseases.
Electropathy doctors here have been holding demonstrations for the past two months demanding employment. The doctors claim they were promised jobs by the state government last year.
"We are left with little option. This is a desperate move to focus attention on our genuine demands," said a doctor in support of the three doctors.
