Nagpur : Security has been tightened around the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters here to prevent a possible terror attack.
This reportedly follows a letter received by the police from the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) that the RSS office, where a terror attack was foiled on June 1 2006, would be blown up on the event’s 2nd anniversary.
Two suspected terrorists were killed in that attempt two years ago.
The latest exercise, which began soon after the Jaipur bomb blasts this month, was stepped up Wednesday with some changes in the double-cordon security ring around the Hedgewar Bhawan in the densely populated Mahal area, police sources confirmed.
Additional Police Commissioner Prabhat Kumar told IANS that a periodic review and beef-up of the security arrangements at all strategically important locations were part of policing on the backdrop of the terrorist threat perception in the country.
Confirming that the security around the RSS headquarters has been tightened and that the police had got an “advisory”, he refused to specify the source of the advisory. He said he had no knowledge about any threat letter.
Some 150 police personnel working in two shifts besides those from the State Reserve Force are deployed around the RSS office. A 15-feet high wall is coming up around the RSS headquarters.
