Beijing : The number of people killed by the violent earthquake that shook the Chinese province of Sichuan three weeks ago has risen to 69,019, according to an official report.
The Council of State”s Information Office said another 18,830 persons are still missing persons, while 368,545 were wounded.
Most of the injured have been already discharged from hospitals, but the Public Health Ministry stated that 12,243 are still hospitalized and almost over 10,000 wounded have been transferred to other provinces.
However, aid and rescue equipment, comprised of soldiers and civilians, had so far resettled over 950,000 victims living in the most battered zones by the telluric phenomenon.
The Seismology Bureau revealed that about 191 seismic aftershocks have been registered in the last 24 hours; three of them of four and 4.9 degrees on the Richter scale.
After the May 12 earthquake, with eight degree, almost 10,000 quakes of diverse intensity have been detected by Chinese seismographs in the mountain range of northern Sichuan.
