Mumbai : Realty and construction major K. Raheja Corporation has inked the first ever project development agreement (PDA) with Johnson Controls to carry out energy efficiency retrofits in Inorbit Mall – Mumbai’s largest mall – under the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI).

“This project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and simultaneously enhance the energy infrastructure bringing about a reduction in both energy costs and operational expenses,” a spokesperson for Johnson Controls said Monday.

He said the two firms will also be carrying out studies on several other construction projects jointly.

CCI was launched in May 2007 wherein 40 cities were identified across the world, which needed to reduce greenhouse gases. Mumbai was one of them.

During its launch, CCI also initiated the Large Buildings Retrofit Programme, introducing Johnson Controls as one of the leading provider of energy efficient saving technologies.

CCI has also urged the central government and local administrations to encourage large cities to decrease carbon emissions and help create awareness amongst realty developers about the benefits. The programme had also provided a framework for public-private partnership.
