Romania defender Goian recovers for team’s Euro opener

St Gallen (Switzerland) : Romania defender Dorin Goian was Wednesday passed fit to play in the team’s opening Euro 2008 match against France.

The 27-year-old Steaua Bucharest player has recovered from a tendon injury in his right leg suffered on Friday in the side’s 4-0 victory over Montenegro, the federation said.

Goian is a key player in the national side, playing nine games and scoring twice including the winning goal in the 1-0 defeat of the Netherlands in October in the qualifying stage.

Romania play France in Vienna on Monday before meeting Italy the following Friday and the Netherlands on June 17 in Group C.
