Mexico City : Rescue workers brought to the shore some 120 people aboard a boat, which sank off the resort city of Cancun in eastern Mexico, Spain’s EFE news agency reported Monday quoting a Red Cross official.

Five of the injured passengers were treated for shock and two for broken arms following the accident Sunday, Red Cross rescue coordinator Jeremy Smith told EFE.

The shipwreck occurred on the stretch of water between Cancun and Isla Mujeres in a reef area known as Punta Cancun.

The light sail boat Sea Star, owned by the Caribbean Carnival company, had a capacity to carry 250 passengers.

Cancun port officials said they were investigating the cause of the accident, adding that the sea was calm with no rain when the accident occurred.
