Airplanes, helicopters deployed for relief operations in Pakistan

Quetta : Inspector General Police Tariq Masood Khosa on Tuesday said that 127 flights of helicopters and 46 flights of C-130 airplanes loaded with relief goods have landed in rain-affected areas since relief operations began.

Addressing a press conference here he added that 11 C-130 planes with relief items are scheduled to land in Jhal Magsi on Tuesday (today). Moreover, two bases have also been setup in Sibi and Jacobabad from where relief items are being sent to flood affectees.

He added that scores of Pak-Army and FC doctors are extending medical facilities to thousands of rain-affected areas moreover, the government has sent in ten more medical teams to different areas who would reinforce medical facilities.

The IG police maintained that FC and police engaged in relief operations and started rescuing stranded people in those areas where flood and heavy rains played havoc as soon as they got first information.

He said that besides the operations of relief center supervised by Balochistan Home Secretary all police stations in rain-hit areas perform as relief centers.

He hoped that non governmental organizations would also play their part in relief and rehabilitation works.

Khosa said that the provincial government has released Rs. 100 million, Federal government Rs. 200 million and the Government of Punjab promised Rs. 50 million for relief operations.

To a question he said that Khuzdar tops flood death toll where 44 people had died because they ignored flood warning issued by the concerned authorities. He said that Turbat, Jhal Magsi, Lasbella, Awaran, Sibi, Washuk and Jaffarabad district are either partially or worst affected areas.

To a question provincial Chief Secrtary K B Rind hoped that road link between Quetta and Karachi would soon be restored.

He added that lady doctors have also offered their services and children are also active in city collecting funds for relief operations.
