Srinagar : Security Forces today claimed to have gunned down a Hizbul Mujahideen Militant involved in killing of policemen in Tral area of Pulwma District.
The militant was killed at Mandoora in Tral during an operation launched on specific information.
Sources quoting Superintendent of Police Awantipora told News Agency of Kashmir that police, 42 RR and 185 CRPF launched an operation on a specific information regarding presence of a militant in the house of Abdul Ahad Bhat at Mandoora Tral.
They further said that as the troops zeroed in the hideout, they came under fire from the hiding militant leading to an encounter. In the ensuing gunbattle one militant was shot dead.
Identifying the slain militant as Showkat Ahmed Dar alias Salim son of Muhammad Sultan Dar of Owarigund Tral, SP Awantipora disclosed that the slain militant was involved in the killings of number of police personnel in Tral and adjoining area.
He disclosed that the slain militant was wanted in over twenty cases militancy related violence and was responsible for the recent abduction and subsequent decapitation of a Police Head Constable Farooq Ahmad Tantray of 3rd Security.
