Pakistan lodges protest over Karzai comments

By Xinhua,

Islamabad : Pakistan Monday lodged a strong protest over Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s comment Sunday that his country’s war against terror could well be fought on its neighbour’s territory.

The foreign office summoned the Afghan envoy and lodged a strong protest over Karzai’s remarks that Afghan troops could be sent to Pakistani territory to fight the militants, TV channel Dawn News said.

Karzai told a news conference in Kabul that Afghanistan had the right to self-defence, and because militants cross over from Pakistan “to come and kill Afghans and kill coalition troops, it exactly gives us the right to do the same (to cross into Pakistan and kill the militants).”

Responding to Karzai’s statement, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani Sunday told a private TV channel that the country would not allow anyone to interfere in its internal affairs.

“We will neither interfere in the internal affairs of any country, nor allow anyone to interfere in our affairs,” said Gillani.

Some US planes bombed a check post in Mohmand tribal agency last Tuesday night, leaving 11 Pakistani paramilitary soldiers dead.
