Waseemur Rahman, first madrasa graduate to become IAS officer, honoured

New Delhi: Dr. Maulana Waseemur Rahman, first Darul Uloom Deoband graduate to clear Indian Civil Services exam, was honoured by All India Rifah-e-Aam Foundation in a programme at Ghalib Academy in New Delhi.

Speaking at the occasion, renowned Islamic scholar said the country needs honest officers for turning it into a developed nation.

Calling the success of Waseemur Rahman a historic event, Sajjadah Nasheen Khwaja Hasan Thani Nizami said that this Darul Uloom alumni has performed an important task by shattering the sense of inferiority found in madrasa graduates.

Dr. Ghulam Yahya Anjum of Jamia Hamdard University also expressed happiness over Maulana Waseemur Rahman’s success as IAS officer.

Prof. Mohammad Noman Khan, head of the Arabic Department of Delhi University, said that today when Islamic Millat is passing through a critical phase of its history, education should be its top most priority. He emphasized that students themselves should decide their future.

Waseemur Rahman was presented an honorary shield in the program. On this occasion, he shed light on his journey from Darul Uloom Deoband to becoming an IAS officer. Appreciating madrasa system of education, he said that the discipline maintained at madrasas is far better than that of the most advanced and standard schools and colleges.
