Zimbabwe Government Keeps up Vote

By Prensa Latina,

Harare : Zimbabwe’s government called its partisans to continue a second round presidential campaign Friday despite the announced withdrawal of opponent Morgan Tsvangirai from the contest.

In its Monday edition The Herald newspaper printed declarations of Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa, referring to the opposition leader’s threats of pulling out.

That threat is worn out and “we will move forward in our campaign toward victory on Friday” assured Chinamasa who is the ZANU-PF spokesman.

However, South African radio SAFM announced Monday Zimbabwe’s government call to Tsvangirai, from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), to reconsider his withdrawal from the presidential race on the verge of the second round.

The Information Vice Minister Bright Matonga, quoted on the radio, noted that it would be pitiful if the opponent decides to leave the elections called for Friday.

In this environment the National Electoral Commission reported that they have received no note of the withdrawal of the MDC leader and that they continue the preparations for the vote.
