London : India’s Leander Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy endured a marathon five-setter to beat local favourites James Auckland and Jamie Delgado and advance to the second round of the men’s doubles event at the Wimbledon championships here.
The ninth seeded Indo-Czech pair fought hard for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over the British pair in almost three hours, Tuesday.
The winners will take on another unseeded pair of American Eric Butorac and Australian Ashley Fisher in the second round.
Another Indian Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi shocked 10th seeded Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenbeg and Marcin Matkowski 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in their opening match that lasted little less that two hour.
In their second round match, Bopanna and Qureshi will face the winner of the match between Thai brothers Sonchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana and Spaniards Marcell Granollers-Pujol and Santiago Ventura.
