Earthquake rocks eastern Indonesia

Jakarta : An earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck eastern parts of Indonesia on Thursday morning with no immediate report of damage or casualty yet, Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.

The quake jolted at 07:44 Jakarta time (0044 GMT) with the epicenter at 109 kilometers southwest Saumlaki town of Maluku province and at 59 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.

Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone so called “the Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates meet that cause frequent volcanic movements.
