Tokyo : An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 hit eastern Japan at 4:49 p.m. local time on Saturday afternoon.
The epicenter of the quake was about 50 kilometers under the seabed of Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The quake sent moderate shockwaves across a wide range of areas of eastern Japan, including Tokyo and prefectures of Miyagi, Fukushima, Gunma, Nagano, Chiba, Saitama, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, Tochigi and Shizuoka.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, Kyodo News said.
