NATO Raid Kills Afghan Civilians

Kabul : Over a dozen civilians, among them women and children, were killed by a NATO air raid in Nuristan province, eastern Afghanistan, the government’s sources reported.

Those people died while abandoning homes in the district of Wanwegal, after announcal of an operation by security forces against insurgent groups, provincial governor Tamim Nuristani stated.

According to Nuristani, the air raid took place after several rebels attacked a military base of the occupying forces in that region.

Among victims were two women, two children, two doctors, a nurse, as well as workers and dealers, he noted.

A legislator, member of the Kandahar Parliament lower chamber, and a tribal representative died in another violent occurence in this country.

Over 1,800 people, victims of the violence gripping that central Asian territory, invaded and occupied by the United States, have been killed this year in Afghanistan.
