Beirut : Lebanese freed prisoner Samir Kontar promises, in a parade welcoming his return in the southern suburbs of Beirut, his “beloved in Palestine” that he would return, hinting to continue resistance against Israel, Al-Manar TV reported Wednesday.
“I promise my beloved in Palestine, we are coming back,” he said.
In a speech to thousands of people who gathered to celebrate his return, Kontar said: “You have bared all the harm, but did not jeopardize your resistance.”
Kontar said that an Israeli told him when he was in jail that “God never created a man who can get you out of jail,” adding that his answer is “God has created many men to do so; on top of them Hassan Nasrallah.”
Earlier, Hezbollah chief Nasrallah made a rare appearance at the public celebration and made a brief statement when he hugged and kissed the prisoners.
But he pulled out of the ceremony for security reasons and later gave a speech via large screens to the tens of thousands of his supporters who had gathered for the celebrations for released prisoners.
He expressed warm welcome to all the five returning Lebanese prisoners, terming the prisoners swap as a victory and it “closed chapter of the 2006 war.”
Kontar has been jailed in Israel since 1979. He was sentenced to life plus 40 years in prison for murdering three family members and a police officer in Nahariya.
A swap deal was curried out Wednesday between Israel and Hezbollah who returned the bodies of two Israeli soldiers captured in July 2006, while Israel returned five Lebanese prisoners and 12fighter bodies, 8 of whom Hezbollah and four Palestinian.
