A BDR delegation, led by its Deputy Director General Brigadier General M.A. Bari, participated in the conference that ended Thursday. The two sides discussed issues like human trafficking, narcotic and cattle smuggling, fake currency smuggling, unprovoked firing, fence breaching and illegal migration through the India-Bangladesh border.

“We exchanged a list of people with criminal records with our Bangladeshi counterparts and gave them a list of 482 Bangladeshi smugglers, cattle lifters and human traffickers. The list also contains names of 200 Bangladeshis who are indulging in human and children trafficking from the other side of the fence to India,” Inspector General of BSF (South Bengal) C.V. Murlidhar told reporters after the parleys.

He said the BSF had requested that BDR troopers take action against those named in the list.

“Similarly, we’ve received a list of 1,497 Bangladeshi miscreants residing in and operating from India. A list of 1,761 Indian smugglers, criminals and dacoits, cattle lifters and anti-Bangladeshi organisations operating from India was also handed over to us,” Murlidhar said.

India and Bangladesh share a 4,095 km-long border.
